Connecting to Your Car with a WiFi OBDII Adapter

A WiFi OBDII adapter allows you to access your car’s diagnostic data using your smartphone or tablet. This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to connect and start using your Wifi_obdii adapter with the Car Scanner app.

First, ensure you have a WiFi-enabled OBDII ELM327 adapter. Plug it into your car’s OBDII port (usually located under the steering wheel) and turn the ignition on or start the engine. If your adapter has a power button, press it.

Establishing a WiFi Connection with Your OBDII Adapter

The initial connection happens through your device’s WiFi settings, not the Car Scanner app.

  1. Connect to the Adapter’s WiFi Network: Open your phone or tablet’s WiFi settings. Locate the network broadcasted by your OBDII adapter. Common names include “OBDII,” “OBD2,” “WIFI_OBDII,” or variations incorporating the adapter brand (e.g., “VLINK” for VGate adapters). Your car’s brand name will not be used. Most adapters don’t require a password, but consult your adapter’s documentation if one is needed.

Configuring the Car Scanner App

Once connected to the WiFi_OBDII network, open the Car Scanner app.

  1. Access Adapter Settings: In the Car Scanner app, tap the gear icon in the top-right corner to access the settings menu.

  1. Select Connection Type: In the settings menu, tap on “Adapter” (or “Connection” in older app versions). Then, choose “Wi-Fi” as the connection type.

  1. Verify Adapter IP Address and Port: Confirm the correct IP address and port for your adapter. The default for most is 192.168.0.10 for the IP address and 35000 for the port. Refer to your adapter’s documentation if these differ.

Initiating the Connection

With the WiFi connection established and the Car Scanner app configured, you’re ready to connect.

  1. Connect and Start Scanning: Tap the large green “Connect” button in the Car Scanner app.

For subsequent connections, ensure your device is connected to the OBD2 WiFi network and simply tap “Connect” in the Car Scanner app. You are now ready to utilize the full functionality of your WiFi_OBDII adapter and the Car Scanner app to monitor your vehicle’s performance.
