The BIM-01-2 Obdii Module serves as a direct interface to your vehicle’s engine diagnostic port, enabling the extraction of crucial engine and transmission data directly from the Engine Control Module (ECM). This powerful OBDII module seamlessly transmits this information to Dakota Digital Instrument Systems*, providing a comprehensive overview of your vehicle’s performance.
What is the BIM-01-2 OBDII Module?
Specifically engineered for J1850 and CAN OBD-II protocols, the BIM-01-2 OBDII module is compatible with a wide range of vehicles adhering to OBD-II standards such as SAE J1850 VPW, SAE J1850 PWM, and ISO 15765 CAN 500k 11 bit identifiers following the SAE J1979 PID protocol**. This compatibility ensures a broad application across different makes and models, making it a versatile tool for vehicle diagnostics and performance monitoring.
Key Data Points Available via the OBDII Module
Once connected, the BIM-01-2 OBDII module gathers and outputs a variety of data points to compatible Dakota Digital Instrument Systems *. Standard data available on most compatible vehicles includes***:
- Speedometer
- Tachometer
- Engine Temperature
- Check Engine Indicator
In addition to these standard readings, the OBDII module can also provide vehicle-specific data, depending on the ECM and sensor availability****:
- Intake Air Temperature
- Transmission Temperature
- Ambient Air Temperature
- Gear Position
- Oil Pressure
- Boost Pressure
It’s important to note that while the BIM-01-2 OBDII module is designed to decode and relay information provided by the ECM, the availability and accuracy of certain data points like Coolant Temperature, Intake Temperature, Transmission Temperature, Ambient Air Temperature, Oil Pressure, Boost, or Gear Position are contingent on the ECM’s capabilities and the presence of functional OEM sensors. Dakota Digital cannot guarantee the consistent availability or accuracy of these vehicle-specific parameters across all applications.
Compatibility and System Integration
The BIM-01-2 OBDII module is specifically designed to interface with GRFX, RTX, HDX, VHX, and VFD3 Dakota Digital instrument systems equipped with a black plastic control module. For BIM-compatible control boxes featuring a 3.5mm headphone jack BIM input, the 394194 adaptor harness (sold separately) is required. It is crucial to understand that earlier instrument systems utilizing an aluminum control module are not compatible with BIM connectivity.
*** Please be aware that GM Connect & Cruise packages may not transmit gear position data, which will prevent the BIM-01-2 OBDII module from acquiring this specific information.
If you have any concerns regarding the compatibility of the BIM-01-2 OBDII module with your specific vehicle, it is highly recommended to contact our sales or technical support department for clarification before purchase.
