The black MHD WiFi adapter, typically used with the MHD tuning platform, has been found to be compatible with Bootmod3 (BM3). This allows users to flash their BM3 tunes wirelessly, eliminating the need for the more expensive BM3 WiFi module or a traditional ENET cable. This discovery offers a significant cost saving and convenience for BM3 users.
While the MHD adapter connects via WiFi, the BM3 mobile app doesn’t allow for on-the-fly map downloads. The process requires selecting the “flash” option, then choosing “download now and flash later.” After the map downloads, connect your phone to the MHD adapter’s WiFi network. The BM3 app will then recognize the vehicle connection.
Testing confirms successful flashing to both Stage 2 OTS maps and custom E85 maps using the MHD adapter. Flash times are comparable to using a wired ENET cable, taking just a few minutes for a complete map flash. A brief error message stating “cannot download the map from the BM3 cloud” might appear around 3% completion, but it quickly resolves, and the flashing process continues normally.
This compatibility eliminates the need for the $150 BM3 WiFi module and simplifies the flashing process. The MHD adapter, priced at $70, offers a more affordable and convenient alternative for wireless BM3 tuning. This allows for a cleaner, wire-free setup and provides the same functionality as the dedicated BM3 adapter.
