Display OBDII Speedometer: Fix ABS Light Issue on a 2001 Toyota Tundra

An aftermarket Display Obdii Speedometer, also known as a Heads-Up Display (HUD), offers a convenient way to see your speed projected onto your windshield. However, installing one in a 2001 Toyota Tundra can sometimes trigger a flashing ABS warning light. This article outlines a solution to this problem encountered after installing an iKiKin M7 dual-mode HUD.

The issue stems from a short circuit in one of the pins on the OBDII connector of the display obdii speedometer. In this specific case, pin 11 was the culprit. The solution involves carefully removing the problematic pin from the speedometer’s connector, not the vehicle’s OBDII port.

Before removing any pins, it’s crucial to identify the problematic one. To do this, use needle-nose pliers to bend pins 9, 10, and 11 down, one at a time. After bending each pin, plug the connector back into the OBDII port and start the vehicle. If the ABS light remains off, the bent pin is not the cause. Continue this process until bending a pin results in the ABS light turning off. This indicates the trouble pin. Important: Bending the pin is a test; do not remove the pin at this stage. Once the faulty pin is identified, you can carefully remove it from the speedometer’s connector using needle-nose pliers.

Removing the problematic pin eliminates the short circuit, resolving the ABS light issue and allowing the display obdii speedometer to function correctly. This fix allows for uninterrupted use of the HUD without triggering any vehicle warning lights. Remember to exercise caution when working with electrical connectors and ensure the vehicle is turned off before making any modifications.
