Before You Apply for a VCDS Lite License

Obtaining Your VCDS Lite Serial Number

The activation process hinges on your unique VCDS Lite serial number. To find it:

1. Open VCDS Lite and navigate to the “About” screen.
2. Locate your Serial Number. It should be a string of alphanumeric characters.
3. Double-click the Serial Number to highlight it. Alternatively, click and drag your mouse cursor across the entire serial number to highlight it.
4. Right-click the highlighted Serial Number and select “Copy.”

Important: If you see a message prompting you to test VCDS Lite instead of a serial number, you must complete the testing procedure before proceeding with activation.

Requesting Your VCDS Lite License

Once you have your Serial Number:

1. Visit the official Ross-Tech website and locate the VCDS Lite registration form.
2. Find the field labeled “VCDS-Lite Serial Number.”
3. Right-click in the field and select “Paste” to insert your copied Serial Number. Accuracy is paramount, so always use copy and paste to avoid errors.
4. Complete the remaining form fields and submit your request.

Caution: Never deactivate any previous versions of VAG-COM or VCDS after submitting your license request. Doing so alters your Serial Number and disrupts the activation process.

Receiving and Applying Your VCDS Lite License

Ross-Tech typically processes activation requests within one business day. You will receive your license file as an email attachment.

1. Save the attached activation file to your computer. It’s recommended to save it to the C:\Ross-Tech\VCDS-Lite folder.
2. Ensure the Serial Number in the email matches the one displayed in VCDS Lite’s “About” screen.
3. Double-check that the “Save as type” is set to “All Files (.)” when saving the activation file.

Verifying Your VCDS Lite License Activation

After saving the activation file, restart VCDS Lite or return to the “About” screen. The “License Status” should now display “Fully Registered/Activated.”

If VCDS Lite remains in Shareware mode, verify that the first part of your Serial Number matches the name of the activation file (e.g., 8523f336 in the serial number should correspond to a file named 8523f336.vcm).
