VCDS Golf 7 Start Stop: Permanently Disable Your Engine Auto Stop

Volkswagen’s Start/Stop system, designed to save fuel, can be frustrating for some Golf 7 owners. This guide provides two VCDS tweaks to permanently disable the Start/Stop (SS) function on your Mk7 Golf using either the Temperature Method or the Voltage Method.

Disabling Start/Stop on Golf Mk7 with VCDS

Before you begin, consider any potential legal or environmental implications of disabling this feature.

There are two primary methods for disabling the Start/Stop system:

1. Temperature Method for Disabling Start/Stop

This method has proven effective on earlier Golf Mk7 models (e.g., MY13). It involves adjusting the temperature thresholds for Start/Stop activation.

Steps:

  1. Access CAN Gateway: Connect your VCDS cable and open the software. Navigate to 19-CAN Gateway.

  2. Open Adaptation: Click on Adaptation – 10.

  3. Adjust Minimum Temperature: In the channel drop-down menu, select (1)-Start/Stopp Auntemperaturvorgabe-Minimaltemperatur. Change the New value to 50 (default is -50.0). Click Do it! and then Add to Log.

  4. Adjust Maximum Temperature: Select (2)-Start/Stopp Auntemperaturvorgabe-Maximaltemperatur from the channel list. Enter 50 as the New value (default is -50.0). Click Do it! and then Add to Log.

2. Voltage Method for Disabling Start/Stop

This method works on later models (e.g., MY14) and involves adjusting the minimum voltage required for Start/Stop to engage.

Steps:

  1. Access CAN Gateway: Navigate to 19-CAN Gateway.

  2. Open Adaptation: Click on Adaptation.

  3. Adjust Start Voltage Limit: Select Start/Stop start voltage limit from the channel list. Enter a New value of 12 (default is 7.6V). Any value above 10V should work, with a maximum permissible value of 12.1V. Click Do it! and then Add to Log.

Golf R Specific Information: Acc/Start Auth. Control Module

Some Golf R models may have an Acc/Start Auth. control module (address 05, HW: 5Q0-959-435) with a dedicated adaptation channel for disabling Start/Stop: Deactivation of start-stop function. The default setting is typically not active. Attempting to change this setting to “active” has been reported as unsuccessful by some users.

Conclusion

Using VCDS, you can easily disable the Start/Stop function on your Golf 7. Choose the method that corresponds to your model year and enjoy a smoother driving experience. Remember to always proceed with caution when modifying your vehicle’s settings.
