VCDS ESI Reset: Understanding Flexible and Fixed Service Intervals

The PR number “QG1” in your vehicle indicates its capability to calculate flexible service intervals. Enabling this functionality requires specific settings within your car’s system. With option (1) enabled, the Electronic Service Interval (ESI) channels in the instrument module determine how ESI is applied. However, critical settings within these ESI channels must be correctly configured. For instance, setting IDE00515-ESI: oil quality to good quality is crucial for proper operation. This allows the car to calculate remaining distance to service based on real-time driving conditions and oil wear, providing a dynamic estimate that can fluctuate.

Alternatively, option (2), combined with appropriate settings for time and distance-related FIX channels, dictates fixed service intervals. In this scenario, the displayed remaining distance is simply the difference between a predetermined fixed number and the mileage driven since the last reset. This value consistently decreases with mileage. The Coding of Service channel acts as a primary control for ESI/SID, but its presence varies depending on the module. Some newer UDS modules may lack this adaptation channel, simplifying the process to enabling flexible service intervals by adjusting the oil quality setting alone, provided the vehicle has the necessary PR number.
