Unlock Your Vehicle’s Data with the BIM-01-2 OBDII Interface

For automotive enthusiasts and professionals seeking to monitor their vehicle’s performance, the Interface Obdii is an indispensable tool. The Dakota Digital BIM-01-2 OBD-II (J1850/CAN) Interface seamlessly connects to your vehicle’s engine diagnostic port, providing a direct line to vital engine and transmission data from your car’s computer (ECM). This powerful module then transmits this information to your Dakota Digital Instrument Systems, offering a comprehensive view of your vehicle’s health and performance.

This interface OBDII, the BIM-01-2, is engineered to gather and output a wealth of information to Dakota Digital GRFX, RTX, HDX, VHX, and VFD3 systems equipped with a black plastic control module. For older BIM-compatible control boxes featuring a 3.5mm headphone jack BIM input, a 394194 adaptor harness is readily available. Please note that earlier instrument systems with an aluminum control module are not compatible with BIM connectivity.

The BIM-01-2 interface OBDII offers a range of data points, with availability depending on your specific vehicle’s ECM and sensor configuration:

Universally Available on Most Vehicles:

  • Speedometer: Accurately monitor your vehicle’s speed.
  • Tachometer: Track your engine’s revolutions per minute (RPM).
  • Engine Temperature: Keep an eye on your engine’s coolant temperature to prevent overheating.
  • Check Engine Indicator: Receive alerts from your vehicle’s diagnostic system, displaying the check engine light status.

Vehicle-Specific Data (Availability Varies):

  • Intake Air Temperature: Monitor the temperature of the air entering your engine.
  • Transmission Temperature: Essential for maintaining optimal transmission health, especially under heavy loads or towing.
  • Ambient Air Temperature: Displays the outside air temperature.
  • Gear Position: Know your vehicle’s current gear selection (note: not available on GM Connect & Cruise packages).
  • Oil Pressure: Crucial for engine lubrication monitoring and preventing engine damage.
  • Boost Pressure: For turbocharged or supercharged vehicles, monitor boost levels for optimal performance and engine safety.

It’s important to understand that while the BIM-01-2 interface OBDII is designed to decode data provided through OBD-II, the availability and accuracy of certain parameters like Coolant Temp, Intake Temp, Transmission Temp, Ambient Air Temp, Oil Pressure, Boost, and Gear Position are contingent on your vehicle’s ECM and the presence of functional OEM sensors. Dakota Digital cannot guarantee the presence or accuracy of these vehicle-specific data points, as it is ultimately dictated by the vehicle manufacturer’s implementation.

The BIM-01-2 interface OBDII is specifically compatible with J1850 and CAN OBD-II protocols, including SAE J1850 VPW, SAE J1850 PWM, and ISO 15765 CAN 500k 11-bit identifiers that adhere to the SAE J1979 PID protocol. This broad compatibility ensures that the interface OBDII works with a wide range of vehicles.

If you have any questions regarding the compatibility of the BIM-01-2 interface OBDII with your specific vehicle, our dedicated sales and technical support departments are readily available to assist you.
