FORScan software, used with a generic ELM237 USB-OBDII adapter, successfully diagnosed various modules in a 20-year-old vehicle, including the SRS, EATC, DDM, LCM, and driver’s seat module. Both KOER (Key On Engine Running) and KOEO (Key On Engine Off) self-tests were performed. Notably, the ABS module wasn’t detected, potentially indicating a faulty module.
Running the KOER test, which commands incremental IAC (Idle Air Control) valve opening, seemingly resolved a previous IAC issue. Cycling the valve beyond its usual range might have dislodged it. The only reported fault was a malfunctioning ignition switch, a known issue with a deliberately severed wire to prevent constant chiming. Interestingly, both the DDM and LCM logged distinct codes for this single problem. Overall, only one minor error from extensive testing demonstrates the vehicle’s relatively good condition considering its age. Using the right OBDII scanner and software allows for comprehensive diagnostics and potential issue resolution, even in older vehicles.
