Autel Robotics Firmware 2.0: How to Update Your EVO II

Autel Robotics Firmware 2.0 is a significant update for the EVO II series drones, enhancing performance and adding new features. Keeping your firmware current is crucial for optimal functionality and safety. This guide provides a comprehensive walkthrough on how to update your EVO II’s firmware using two methods: Over-the-Air (OTA) and via microSD card. We’ll also cover how to verify your current firmware version.

Updating EVO II Firmware Over-the-Air (OTA)

The easiest way to update your Autel EVO II drone to firmware 2.0 (or the latest version) is using the OTA method. This requires a stable internet connection and the Autel Explorer app.

  1. Power On and Connect: Turn on your EVO II drone and remote controller. Connect your smartphone or tablet to the remote controller and ensure it has a strong Wi-Fi or cellular data connection.

  2. Launch Autel Explorer App: Open the Autel Explorer app on your mobile device. The app will automatically check for firmware updates for both the aircraft and the remote controller. This process usually takes 30-60 seconds. If an update is available, a blue banner notification will appear at the bottom of the screen.

  3. Download the Firmware: Tap the blue banner to view the release notes for the new firmware version. Tap “Download” to download the firmware update file to your mobile device.

  4. Upload to EVO II: Once the download is complete, tap “Start Uploading” to transfer the firmware file from your mobile device to your EVO II. You can monitor the upload progress on the remote controller’s built-in screen.

  5. Update Completion: After the upload is finished, the EVO II will automatically install the new firmware. Do not interrupt the process. Once complete, the drone will reboot.

Updating EVO II Firmware via microSD Card

Alternatively, you can update your EVO II’s firmware using a microSD card.

  1. Download Firmware File: Visit the official Autel Robotics website (https://auteldrones.com/pages/evo-ii-downloads) and navigate to the “Firmware” section. Download the latest .BIN firmware file for your specific EVO II model.

  2. Copy to microSD Card: Copy the downloaded firmware file to the root directory of a formatted microSD card. Do not place the file inside any folders on the card.

  3. Insert microSD Card into EVO II: Insert the microSD card into the EVO II drone.

  4. Power On and Update: Power on the drone and remote controller. The firmware update process will begin automatically. You can track the progress on the remote controller’s screen.

  5. Reboot: Once the update is complete, reboot both the drone and remote controller.

Verifying Your EVO II’s Firmware Version

To confirm that your EVO II is running the latest firmware (autel robotics firmware 2.0 or later), follow these steps:

  1. Connect to Autel Explorer: Power on your EVO II and remote controller. Connect your mobile device to the remote controller.

  2. Access Settings: Open the Autel Explorer app and tap “Camera.” Then, tap the gear icon in the top right corner to access the settings menu.

  3. Find Firmware Version: In the settings menu, tap “General,” then tap “Firmware Version.”

  4. Compare with Latest Version: Compare the displayed version numbers with the latest versions listed on the Autel Robotics website. If the numbers match, your firmware is up to date.
