Autel Energy, a global provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions, partnered with Baker Tilly to establish its first U.S. manufacturing facility. Driven by the burgeoning EV market and federal initiatives to expand charging infrastructure, Autel required comprehensive site selection support. This included a nationwide search encompassing the lower 48 states, followed by a rapid selection process to address market demand and competition.
Baker Tilly’s site selection specialists employed a rigorous analytical approach to identify optimal locations. Initially considering over 50 sites across eight states, the team narrowed the options to three sites in two states based on Autel’s specific requirements. This involved collaboration with site developers, economic development agencies, and utility companies to assess power capacity and occupancy timelines.
The collaborative efforts resulted in the selection of a site in Greensboro, North Carolina. Baker Tilly facilitated introductions to a real estate broker for transaction support and a qualified engineering firm for facility design and layout. Furthermore, the team assisted Autel in applying for state and local incentives. A comprehensive summary of the selection process was presented to Autel’s parent company stakeholders to ensure transparency and confidence in the final decision. Autel has since acquired an existing building and is currently upgrading it to meet production needs. The company is also working with local utilities to secure power service and related incentives.
Autel’s strategic move into U.S. manufacturing underscores its commitment to the expanding American EV market. With Baker Tilly’s expert guidance, Autel has established a foundation for growth and innovation in the EV sector. The new facility will play a crucial role in supporting the nationwide adoption of electric vehicles and contribute to the development of a robust EV charging infrastructure.
