Autel de Boéthia: A Guide to the Skyrim Daedric Quest

The Autel De Boéthia in Skyrim is a Daedric shrine dedicated to the Prince of Deceit and Treachery, Boethiah. This guide will walk you through completing Boethiah’s Calling, the quest associated with this location, and claiming the coveted Ebony Mail.

To begin Boethiah’s Calling, you must first be level 30. The quest can be initiated in two ways: either by finding the book “Boethiah’s Proving” randomly in dungeons or on Boethiah cultists, or by directly visiting the Autel de Boethiah itself. The shrine is located east of Windhelm.

The Sacrifice and the Champion

Upon arriving at the Autel de Boéthia, speak with the priestess. She will instruct you to bring a follower to the shrine as a sacrifice. This can be any follower, but a convenient choice is one of the initiates acquired during the Dark Brotherhood questline. Lead your chosen “friend” to the Sacrificial Pillar and have them interact with it.

Once trapped, kill them with a ranged weapon to avoid incurring a bounty. Boethiah will then appear.

Before giving you her task, she demands her followers prove themselves in a free-for-all. Wait for them to kill each other. As the last one stands, defeat them. Boethiah will then command you to find and eliminate her previous champion.

The Hunt for the Champion

Your target is located at Knifepoint Ridge. Despite Boethiah’s suggestion of stealth, you can openly confront the bandits guarding the entrance.

Once inside the mine, stealth is an option, thanks to strategically placed holes and enemy positions. Work your way through the mine, eliminating the bandits.

You’ll eventually encounter the former champion within a secluded shack. Weaken him through the wall before finishing him off.

Claiming the Ebony Mail

Finally, loot the Ebony Mail from the former champion’s corpse and equip it to complete the quest. The Ebony Mail is a powerful piece of Daedric armor that poisons nearby enemies.
