The Autel Ultra tablet occasionally displays a message prompting a VCMI update. During a recent vehicle diagnosis, this message appeared despite the VCMI functioning correctly, with green power and battery indicators. A USB cable connected the tablet and VCMI. The update initiated but abruptly halted, displaying an error message citing low VCMI battery. The VCMI’s power light turned red, even when connected to a power outlet. The error persisted, preventing the update. The red power light remained on, unresponsive to the power button.
Autel technical support advised a 30-minute VCMI charge, suggesting repair if unsuccessful. However, the VCMI had functioned perfectly before the update attempt. A one-hour charge yielded no improvement.
The solution came from Curtis Harden of Autel Consultancy. Remotely accessing the Ultra tablet, he identified a pending system update for the tablet itself. After completing this update, the VCMI update proceeded without error. The power light returned to green, restoring full VCMI functionality.
Therefore, if prompted for a VCMI update, ensure the Autel Ultra tablet’s operating system is updated to the latest version beforehand. This preventative measure can avoid potential VCMI update complications.
