How to Permanently Disable Audi Start Stop with VCDS

Disabling the automatic start-stop feature in your Audi can improve your driving experience. This guide provides two methods using VCDS (Vag-Com Diagnostic System) to permanently disable the start-stop system, often referred to as “SS,” on various Audi models, focusing on techniques applicable to models like the Golf Mk7 which share similar systems.

Two VCDS Methods to Disable Audi Start Stop

There are two primary methods to disable the start-stop system: the Temperature Method and the Voltage Method. The applicability of each method depends on the model year (MY) of your Audi. Generally, the Voltage Method works on later models, while the Temperature Method is effective on earlier MYs. Before proceeding, consider any potential legal or environmental implications associated with disabling this feature.

Method 1: The Temperature Method for Disabling Start Stop

This method involves adjusting the temperature thresholds that trigger the start-stop system.

  1. Access CAN Gateway: Connect your VCDS interface and navigate to 19-CAN Gateway.

  2. Enter Adaptation: Select Adaptation – 10.

  3. Modify Minimum Temperature: In the drop-down menu, locate (1)-Start/Stopp Auntemperaturvorgabe-Minimaltemperatur. Change the New value to 50 (default is -50.0). Click Do it! and Add to Log to save the change.

  4. Modify Maximum Temperature: Select (2)-Start/Stopp Auntemperaturvorgabe-Maximaltemperatur. Enter 50 in the New value field (default is -50.0). Click Do it! and Add to Log.

By setting both minimum and maximum temperature triggers to 50, the start-stop system effectively believes the temperature is always outside the operational range, preventing activation.

Method 2: The Voltage Method for Disabling Start Stop

This method manipulates the voltage threshold for the start-stop system.

  1. Access CAN Gateway: Connect VCDS and go to 19-CAN Gateway.

  2. Enter Adaptation: Choose Adaptation.

  3. Adjust Start Voltage Limit: Find Start/Stop start voltage limit in the drop-down list. Set the New value to 12 (default is 7.6V). Any value above 10V should work, with a maximum permissible value of 12.1V. Click Do it! and Add to Log.

This method tricks the system into thinking the battery voltage is insufficient to engage start-stop.

Additional Considerations for Audi Start Stop Disable with VCDS

Certain Audi models, like the Golf R, might have an Acc/Start Auth. control module (address 05, HW: 5Q0-959-435). This module features a Deactivation of start-stop function adaptation channel. While theoretically, changing this setting might disable start-stop, access to this module is often restricted. Always verify compatibility with your specific Audi model before implementing any changes. The success of these methods depends on your specific Audi model and year. Consult online forums or resources specific to your Audi for confirmed compatibility and potential troubleshooting.
