While troubleshooting, various connectors, including those for the Body Control Module (BCM) and Engine Control Module (ECM), were inspected and cleaned. Unexpectedly, the BCM plugs were found to be quite dirty, emphasizing the need for regular cleaning, especially for dustproof obdii gauges. This underscores the importance of maintaining clean connections for reliable operation of OBDII gauges and highlights the potential for dust buildup to cause connectivity issues. The focus should be on circuits 2500 & 2501 when encountering similar problems.
In this specific instance, the power steering system was removed and rewired, and a 120-ohm resistor was recommended for installation. The signal path for the RPD involves the following components:
- OBDII Port
- Electronic Power Steering (EPS)
- Body Control Module (BCM)
- Realtime Performance Display (RPD) (Turbo only option)
- Dash Harness to Body Harness Connector
- Transmission Control Module (TCM) (Automatic transmission only)
- Engine Control Module (ECM)
The wiring diagram revealed that pins 1 and 19 on connector X2 provide input, connecting to pins E and F on the RPD. The circuit is completed with the output from the RPD on pins A and B. This detailed understanding of the circuit path proved crucial in identifying the faulty connection. The initial assumption that pressing on the kickplate was causing the issue led to a misdiagnosis.
