Installing an OBDII Splitter for Multiple Device Connections

An Obdii Splitter allows you to connect multiple devices to your vehicle’s OBDII port simultaneously. This guide provides a step-by-step walkthrough on installing an OBDII splitter and bracket, enabling you to use various diagnostic tools, performance monitors, or other OBDII accessories without constantly swapping connections. This setup is ideal for anyone who needs to run multiple OBDII devices at once.

Preparing for Installation

Before starting, gather the necessary components and tools:

Required Parts:

Tools Needed:

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Small torx set
  • Trim removal tool
  • Mini flat head screwdriver

Step-by-Step Installation Guide

  1. Remove Hood Release and Access Screw: Use the Phillips head screwdriver to detach the hood release handle, revealing a hidden torx screw. Remove this screw using the torx set.

  2. Access the OBDII Port: Carefully pull back the door weather stripping near the dashboard and remove the black plastic door trim. Locate the kick panel surrounding the OBDII port and gently pull it towards the transmission tunnel to release the two snap clips. Detach the snap connector closest to the trunk release using the trim removal tool. To ensure easier reassembly later, attach this connector to the corresponding location on the removed kick panel.

  3. Detach the Trunk Release Button: Press the trunk release button from behind to disengage it from the kick panel. Rotate the button to expose the wire harness connection. Use a mini flat head screwdriver to carefully disconnect the harness. Set aside both the button and the kick panel.

  4. Loosen the Lower Dash Panel: Using the torx set, unscrew the two lower dash panel screws closest to the driver’s side door. You do not need to remove the third screw.

  5. Remove the OEM OBDII Port: Locate the two Phillips head screws securing the original OBDII port to the car and remove them.

  6. Connect the Splitter: Plug the OEM OBDII harness into the female connector of the OBDII splitter (replicator).

  7. Mount the Bracket: Connect the first male connector of the splitter to the aftermarket bracket.

  8. Connect Auxiliary Devices: Plug your devices into the remaining two connectors on the splitter. Carefully position these connectors within the lower dash panel area. Re-secure the dash panel screws.

  9. Secure the Bracket: Screw the new bracket into place, ensuring a firm hold.

  10. Position the Splitter Harness: Correct placement of the splitter harness is crucial for smooth reassembly of the kick panel. Ensure the trunk release harness is accessible and positioned as shown in the image below to facilitate reconnection.

  11. Reinstall the Kick Panel: Reattach the kick panel, starting with the top snap connector previously removed. This pre-attached connector simplifies the process. Ensure the trunk release wiring remains accessible and reconnect the trunk release button to its harness.

  12. Final Reassembly: Reinstall the door trim, followed by the weather stripping, and finally, the OBDII access cover.

This completes the installation of your OBDII splitter. You can now connect multiple devices to your vehicle’s OBDII port.
